To launch UKS2s new theme ‘Extreme Earth’, Mr Roper, who is a successful civil engineer as well as our chair of governors, visited Ryecroft for the day to work with our pupils on creating a truss bridge using paper and bolts with the criteria of supporting at least 1Kg. This STEM workshop helped strengthen our work on the school key drivers; communication through collaborative group work, and aspirations through the sharing of potential career aspects and roles within the wider engineering sector. Civil engineers are paramount in the early operations following a natural disaster to help return many of essentials to normal, such as electricity supply, water and access to disaster sites. This was a fantastic day had by all and the pupils wanted to share their thanks with Mr Roper once again.
