School Uniform is inclusive of:

  • A royal blue jumper / cardigan (There is an option of purchasing jumpers and cardigans with an academy logo)

  • A plain white polo type t-shirt (with a collar) or a plain white shirt

  • Black or charcoal grey tailored school trousers

  • Black or charcoal grey tailored shorts

  • Black or charcoal grey tailored school skirt

  • Black or charcoal grey tailored school dress

  • Plain black leather / leather look school shoes, plain black leather / leather look boots (no higher than mid-calf) or plain black trainers (below the ankle and inclusive of black laces)

  • A checked blue and white dress is permitted (culotte style checked blue and white dresses are also fine)

Nursery children only are permitted to wear charcoal grey or black leggings or jogging bottoms

Additional Expectations:

  • Pupils are only allowed one small stud earring per earlobe. Pupils can wear a watch though activity watches are not permitted. Both earrings and watches will need to be removed for PE, however. If unable to be removed during PE, a Hindu Rakhi should be taped to the arm and a Sikhism Kara should be pushed up the arm, taped and covered with a sweatband. In these circumstances, parents/carers must advise the academy and provide written assurance that safety measures will be complied with (parents/carers must also provide the required tape and/or sweatbands).

  • Makeup is unnecessary and should not be worn unless a reasonable adjustment has been authorised by the Principal. Nails must be of an appropriate length and natural in colour: coloured nail varnish and/or false nails are not permitted.
  • Mehndi/Henna: students are allowed to return to school with Henna after Eid (or for pre-notified family celebrations such as a wedding) but it cannot be added to and must be allowed to fade naturally.
  • School jumpers need to be in school every day.

Footwear:

It is expected that children attend in academy uniform, this should include one of the following items of footwear on non PE days:

  • Plain black leather or leather look shoes with a discrete, same colour, logo. Shoes must not be decorative(e.g. diamantes, coloured /reflective stripes or logos)

  • A suitable plain black trainer with a discrete, same colour, logo. Trainers must not have coloured laces or reflective stripes.

  • Black leather or leather look boots with a discrete, same colour, logo. Boots must be no higher than mid-calf and must not be decorative (e.g., diamantes, reflective stripes etc).

  • On PE days it is expected that pupils attend school in the correct PE uniform and in trainers suitable for PE.

Bags:

The style of bags that are permitted include book bags and rucksacks. From a health and safety perspective, it is important that bags have a short handle which enables them to be hung safely on cloak room hooks.

Pupils who regularly participate in extra-curricular sport will be provided with a Ryecroft Academy rucksack without charge.

Hairstyles:

Hairstyles should not reflect the extremes of ‘youth culture’, for example shaved lines and patterns on the side of the head; patterns must not be cut into the hair. Hair should be of a natural colour. Two tone colour patterns and/or dip dye is not permitted. If it is considered that a hairstyle worn, including when the colour is not ‘natural’ is because of cultural, family and/or social customs and is part of a student’s ethnic origin or religious beliefs, and which therefore falls under the protected characteristic of race or religion, this will be permitted. The only exception would be on health and safety grounds. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the Principal e.g. medical reasons. Hair accessories must be appropriate in size and colour for sensible and safe working. Hair clips must not be attached to jumpers/shirts/ items of clothing.

Physical Education Uniform:

Physical Education uniform is detailed below:

  • Plain white t-shirt

  • Plain blue shorts, plain blue tracksuit bottoms or plain blue leggings. Plain blue skorts (with an attached underlayer) are also acceptable
  • A school jumper or cardigan (with or without a logo) in the event of cold weather. Our school jumpers and cardigans are not permitted to have a hood or zips

  • Trainers

  • Hair bobble – for all hair that is long enough to be tied back in a bobble

Permitted Physical Education Uniform:

Cycling shorts must be mid-thigh length or longer and very short shorts (hot pant style) are not permitted and are unsuitable, particularly given that our pupils remain in their Physical Education uniform for the full day.

Lunch Bags:

  • Children can also bring their lunch in a lunch box and / or lunch bag, which has been specifically designed for this purpose.

Purchasing Uniform:

Our uniform can be purchased online through our supplier Price and Buckland. They offer the option for parents/carers to pay a delivery charge of £4.50 per order (free delivery for orders over £65.00) and the items are delivered to the specific address that you request. Alternatively, you can request for the items to be delivered to school for collection free of charge. You will be notified once the items have arrived in school.

All of our uniform, other than items that have a logo, can be widely purchased from high street retailers and supermarkets.

We offer pre-loved uniform for a small donation and welcome our families to use this service as part of our effort to recycle and be environmentally friendly. Pre-loved uniform is available for sale via the school office, you can contact the school office at any point via the main school number to enquire about our stock and purchasing.

As part of our Positive Discipline system, pupils are rewarded each week for wearing their uniform correctly.
