Kerilee Cappleman

Assistant Principal

Hi, my name is Mrs Cappleman. I have worked for GORSE Academies Trust for 5 years and have worked at Ryecroft Academy for almost 2 years now. I am one of the Assistant Principals and in school my main areas of responsibility are leading the teaching, learning and assessment in the Early Years and Early Years SENDCo. I also work for the wider Trust as the Director of GORSE SCITT Early Years, in this role I organise and deliver the teacher training programme for any trainees who wish to teach in the Early Years. My passion has always been the early years having done a teaching degree specifically focused on early childhood education. Since then I have taught in both Nursery and Reception and led the EYFS team as well as KS1 in previous schools.

Building positive relationships with both children and parents is essential to a child’s education and this is something I always try to do when families join our school. I believe in creating a safe, secure and stimulating environment where children feel happy. These types of environments help to create a sense of community where children can feel that it is a home from home. When they feel like this it gives them a sense of belonging which is what we strive to do here at Ryecroft. I think that children learn best through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated learning, alongside this, providing them with a vast array of opportunities helps to bring out the best in each individual child. I believe in helping children understand how they learn best and giving them time to flourish in their own way so they can be the best they can be. I thoroughly enjoy spending my days in an Early Years classroom, even if you are feeling low, our youngest children have this immense ability to do something or say something that puts a smile on your face and brightens up your day. They have such a beauty and innocence about them that you can’t help but take them under your wing and help them to fly.

One of my favourite areas of provision is the reading area, I love to sit and read books, retell them using pictures and props or talking about my favourite characters. I also enjoy doing anything creative, this might be getting into character in the role play area, making a cake with the playdough or using a range of materials and resources to make amazing creations. I also love our sensory room, it is so calm and relaxing. I like to go in there and look at the fairy lights, the bubble tube and listen to some music.

In my spare time I love spending weekends with my family, I live with my husband, our daughter Sofia who is two years old and our two ginger kittens, Hank and Walter. Together we like to go and visit the coast for walks on the beach, paddles in the sea, playing on the 2p machines and eating fish and chips! We also enjoy baking, picnics in the park and visiting places such as zoos and farms to see the animals, my favourite are the penguins!

Loanne Lo

Reception Teacher

Hello, my name is Miss Lo, I am a qualified EYFS teacher and I have been working at Ryecroft Academy for two years in both nursery and reception. I’ve had training in Autism, intensive interaction and visual impairment. I first started working in Education as a one-to-one in London, but moved back to Leeds to be closer to my family.

I have a comprehensive understanding of the Early Years curriculum, I like to adapt the classroom provision to each unique class of young learners that I teach, as I believe that every child learns differently, so we need to mould our teaching around them to enhance their learning. I aim to encourage the characteristics of self-belief, being confidently-unique, resilience and problem solving. I believe honing these skills will strengthen their foundation years, which will support them moving forward through life.

I love the world of Early Years, and find learning through play massively important and fascinating. I enjoy encouraging creativity, imagination and pushing inquisitiveness. My favourite part of the day is when a child shares a story about what they’ve discovered, things they find interesting and want to know more about, or explains one of their ideas.

In my spare time, I like to visit my friends and family, paint, go for picnics and spend time exploring nature with my niece. We like to go on adventures to pick flowers!

Darcie Bull

Trainee Teacher

Hi, my name is Miss Bull, I am an Early Years trainee teacher at Ryecroft Academy. I started working at Ryecroft Academy in September 2020, however, I have worked in education since 2014, when I started studying for my degree. After gaining my degree, I then went onto being a teaching assistant for two and half years in Sheffield. During this time I have become very familiar with the Early Years curriculum having worked for 7 months in Nursery, 12 months in Year 1 and 12 months working in a mixed Early Years and Year 1 classroom.

I have always been passionate about pursuing a career working with children and families and becoming an influential role model. I believe in fostering creativity, developing character and giving children lenses with which to view the world. I believe in being an inspiration to the children, giving them guidance to strive and the skills they need to reach their potential and lead productive lives. Early Years is a rewarding place to work as every child is able to blossom socially and morally, they are given the opportunity to explore different opportunities and to become the best version of themselves. It feels great being part of and giving children the best start they can have to their educational journey.

Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family and friends and travel to different places. My favourite place to travel to s Tenerife as I love laying in the sun and reading a book.
