At Ryecroft Academy we believe it is never too soon for our students to start developing the skills needed to be self-confident, well-educated and aspirational individuals. We recognise the importance of preparing our children for the next stage in their education – and beyond – for the world of work. We set high expectations of our children’s conduct, behaviour, attendance and attitude to ensure that all students develop the attributes that employers value and seek out.

We expect all our students to develop high aspirations and in time, consider a wide range of further study and careers. We aim to inspire our students through real-life contact with the world of work, to help them understand where different choices can take them in the future.

We wish to ensure that our students are not restricted by circumstances, location, or gender. We work hard across school and in all lessons to challenge all forms of stereotyping to ensure that boys and girls from all backgrounds and diversity groups genuinely believe they can take on any career including those that are often portrayed as primarily for one or the other of the sexes.  This will help every young person to realise their potential and so support social mobility.

How Do We Achieve this?

  • We work with Primary Futures to arrange events for every year group throughout the year.

  • We invite volunteers from a wide range of careers to talk to children about the skills, knowledge and qualifications.

  • We work with local entrepreneurs to visit school and inspire our students and talk about the personal attributes needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive working world

  • We have a yearly recruitment and training fair for parents looking to start or return to work or further their learning.

  • We hold regular “take over days” throughout the year, where children can complete an application form for the opportunity to take on different roles within school for the day.

  • We have a specific STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers focus in Year 5 and 6 to inspire our children to consider careers in this field, especially our girls.

  • We frequently link with our Trust Partners at The Farnley Academy and Elliot Hudson College to arrange experiences that prepare students for their future stages of education.

  • The Academy has established a partnership with The Skills Network to enable us to offer online and accredited level 2 and 3 training courses for our parents and careers.
